Mid Level Retail Game Developer (C++) at Inspired – Job description

Based in our Burton-upon-Trent office the C++ Game Developer is responsible for working in a multi discipline team, including Artists, Games Designers, Mathematicians, Sound Engineers, Producers and Testers, to deliver high quality games across our retail platforms.

The role will have active daily involvement in producing games across varied territories, working alongside the team to prioritise tasks and deliver games as prescribed by the production roadmap.

The key requirement is an individual who has good knowledge of C++ and associated APIs, and who has real-world experience of applying the knowledge in a complex and fast-moving development environment. Previous experience working in a gaming environment would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

 

Working as part of a team of developers producing games and supporting materials which are both functional and operable.

Working with other departments (art, design, sound, maths, production, test) to deliver high quality, robust graphically-rich games.

Implementing solutions which conform to architectural design and market specification and legal requirements.

Working within agreed timeframes and recording time spent against projects.

Engaging in project planning and estimation meetings, as directed by the Team Lead.

Following the strategy and best practices of the group.

Communicating progress and issues to the team lead in a timely manner.

Contributing to the continuous improvement of our core technologies.

Performing regular code reviews amongst the team, to maintain high standards.

Skills Required

 

Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
Able to work comfortably both as part of a team, and independently.

Excellent communication skills.
C++ (Min C++11).
Python.

Visual Studio including use of the internal debugger.

Knowledge of STL / Boost libs.
Working knowledge of XML.
Source Control; Git, BitBucket.

Beneficial Experience

Ability to demonstrate experience in a similar role.
Experience of Agile methodologies.
Working knowledge of DirectX9.
Knowledge of  JSON.

Working in Microsoft Teams.
